Cost guide Garden maintenance

Garden maintenance prices in Kildare: per visit, per month and per year

What garden maintenance costs in Kildare in 2026: per visit, monthly and yearly market ranges, what pushes a quote up, and what to check before you agree one.

Regular garden maintenance in County Kildare usually costs somewhere between €44 and €110 a visit, according to published 2026 price guides. Spread across a year, that tends to land between €600 and €1,500 for a standard suburban garden. Where your garden sits in that range comes down to its size, the state it is in today, how much hedge there is, and whether the price includes taking the green waste away and VAT.

What garden maintenance costs in Kildare

Few garden companies in Kildare publish their prices, so the most useful figures come from the quote platforms and cost guides that collect them. These are the ranges they publish for the jobs people most often ask about.

Per visit, per month or per year: three ways to pay for the same garden

Before comparing two quotes, make sure they use the same model.

How it is pricedHow it worksSuitsCheck
Per visitA set price each time someone comes, often fortnightly in the growing seasonSmaller gardens, or anyone who wants to stop and startWhat happens to the price when the grass is long after a wet fortnight
MonthlyAn agreed number of visits for a fixed monthly paymentBusy households who want a steady billHow many visits a month in summer, and how many in winter
YearlyA season or full-year schedule priced as one figureLarger gardens, rentals and holiday homesWhat the year includes beyond grass: hedges, leaves, borders

Here is how a per-visit price becomes a yearly cost, as an illustration rather than a quote. Say a visit is priced at €55, inside the Kildare range above. A garden that needs a fortnightly visit from April to October gets about 15 visits, and a monthly visit from November to March adds about 5 more. Twenty visits at €55 comes to €1,100 a year, or roughly €92 a month if you spread it evenly. That is close to the middle of the €600 to €1,500 range QuoteHub publishes for year-round monthly visits.

What pushes a garden maintenance quote up or down

These are the things that make the difference, roughly in order of how much they move the figure.

  • Size and layout. A large open lawn is quick to mow. A smaller garden with tight corners, steps, raised beds and narrow side passages takes longer per square metre.
  • The state it is in today. A garden that has been let go is usually priced as a one-off tidy first, then a regular visit after. That first visit is where the €165 to €440 tidy-up range comes in, and heavy work like this is often charged at a higher hourly rate than routine upkeep.
  • Hedges. Long or tall hedges are often the biggest single job in a garden. Height matters as much as length, because above head height the work needs steps or platforms and a second person. See hedge cutting and tree work for how that is handled.
  • What is included. Edging, weeding, border care and leaf clearance all take time. A quote that only says "grass cutting" will look cheaper than one that lists the lot.
  • Green waste. Taking cuttings away costs time, a trailer and a gate fee, which is covered below.
  • Frequency and access. A regular visit is quicker than catching up after a long gap, and a garden with no side access takes longer.

Green waste: the cost people forget to ask about

Every visit produces cuttings. A brown bin takes a little, but hedge cuts and a first big tidy produce far more than a bin holds.

For Kilcullen and the south of the county, the nearest drop-off is the Silliot Hill recycling centre, which Kildare County Council describes as just outside Kilcullen on the Naas to Kilcullen road. It is run for the council by AES, whose Silliot Hill page lists green waste at 10c per kg, with a €5 minimum charge, Monday to Saturday from 8am to 3.45pm.

The gate fee itself is small. A trailer with 150 kg of hedge cuttings costs about €15 to tip. The real cost is the loading, the trailer and the round trip, which is why some quotes include removal and others leave cuttings bagged on site.

VAT: why two quotes can be 13.5% apart

Garden maintenance for a private home is charged at Ireland's reduced rate of VAT. Revenue's VAT rates database lists landscaping for private dwellings, including lawns, hedge trimming and the maintenance of them, at the reduced rate, and the current reduced rate is 13.5%.

Not every gardener is registered for VAT, so one quote may include it and another may not. Before you compare, ask whether each figure is with or without VAT. Kildare Plant & Garden Solutions is a VAT-registered limited company, so its quotes say how VAT is treated.

Why a very cheap hourly rate rarely adds up

Since 1 January 2026, the national minimum wage has been €14.15 an hour. A garden business that employs anyone pays at least that for every hour they work, before insurance, fuel, mowers, hedge cutters, a van, a trailer, travel time and tipping fees.

That is why published hourly ranges start around €25. A rate well under that can mean no insurance, cuttings left behind, or a price that grows once the job starts.

Timing: the growing season and rural hedges

Most gardens need more visits from spring to autumn and fewer in winter, so a good schedule changes with the season.

Hedges on rural property bring one more rule. Section 40 of the Wildlife Act 1976 restricts cutting vegetation growing on land not then cultivated between 1 March and 31 August each year, as the National Parks and Wildlife Service explains, with limited exemptions such as road safety. If you have roadside or field boundary hedges, larger cuts are normally booked for the autumn and winter, which affects both when the work happens and how the year is priced.

Nine things a written quote should tell you

Whoever you ask, a quote you can compare should answer these questions in writing.

  1. What each visit covers

Grass, edging, weeding, borders, hedges and leaves, item by item.

  2. How often

The number of visits in the growing season and in winter.

  3. How it is priced

Per visit, per month or per year, so you compare like with like.

  4. The first visit

Whether an overgrown garden needs a one-off tidy first, and what that costs.

  5. Green waste

Taken away, bagged on site, or put in your brown bin.

  6. VAT

Whether the figure includes VAT at 13.5%.

  7. Extras

Which jobs are quoted separately, such as tree work or new planting.

  8. Insurance

Whether they carry public liability insurance for work in your garden.

  9. Changes and cancellations

What happens if a visit is rained off, or you want to pause.

How Kildare Plant & Garden prices garden maintenance

Kildare Plant & Garden Solutions is based in Kilcullen and looks after gardens across the town, Naas, Newbridge and the rest of the county. Seanie does not use a one-size price, because a fixed package either overcharges a small garden or underprices a big one.

Instead, he looks at the garden with you, agrees what needs doing and how often, and then puts the price in writing. The quote sets out what is included, and whether materials and waste removal are in the price. The quotation itself is free, subject to the job and the location. Tree work beyond routine trimming is quoted separately.

If the garden needs more than maintenance, such as a lawn that will not drain or a failed patio, see garden transformations, landscaping and groundworks or patios and paving. Management companies and businesses should see commercial grounds maintenance, which is priced as a contract.

You can read more about Seanie and how the business started, or go straight to the contact page with your town and a few photos of the garden. If you already know it needs regular care, ask for a garden maintenance quote.

Garden maintenance prices: common questions

How much does a gardener cost per hour in Ireland?

Published 2026 guides put general garden work at about €25 to €60 or more an hour, depending on the job. Many gardeners price by the visit or the job instead, so ask for the total, not just the rate.

How much is garden maintenance a month in Kildare?

QuoteHub's Kildare guide puts regular maintenance for a standard suburban garden at €80 to €150 a month, and €600 to €1,500 a year for monthly visits all year. Larger gardens and gardens with a lot of hedge cost more.

How much does it cost to have my grass cut?

For lawn mowing only, QuoteHub's Kildare guide gives €20 to €40 a visit, and Garden Maintenance Ireland gives €30 to €75 for small to medium gardens. Long grass after a gap, awkward access or taking the clippings away all push it up.

Is VAT charged on garden maintenance in Ireland?

Yes, when the gardener is VAT registered. Revenue lists landscaping and its maintenance for private homes at the reduced rate, which is currently 13.5%. Ask whether each quote includes it.

Does the price include taking the green waste away?

Not always. Some quotes include removal and some leave cuttings bagged on site. At Silliot Hill, near Kilcullen, green waste is charged at 10c per kg with a €5 minimum, plus the time and trailer to get it there.

What does Kildare Plant & Garden charge for garden maintenance?

Seanie prices each garden after seeing it, because size, condition and hedges change the work a lot. The quotation is free, subject to the job and location, and sets out in writing what is included.
